Exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1955, it immediately became famous and aroused the enthusiasm of experts and the public.
The famous French essayist and semiologist Roland Barthes was also impressed by her, attributing an almost mythological value to the beautiful "sportswoman". He wrote: "La Déesse [DS] [Goddess] has all the characteristics of an object coming from another universe...".
In fact, in the automotive panorama of the time, the Citroen DS appears as an object of unexpected beauty.

WORK BY FLAMINIO BERTONI 
It was the brainchild of one of the greatest engine stylists of all time: Flaminio Bertoni (1903/1964).
Each shape of the bodywork is modeled in such a way as to offer the least air resistance, the streamlined profile line from the roof to the tail, according to the best aerodynamic penetration coefficient. 
That is, perfect consonance between technology and aesthetics.
The front is slender, inclined and the glass surfaces are large.
Elegantly finished on the outside and inside, it features the "empty" single-spoke steering wheel, a new and refined element.

The Citroen DS 1955 - or Desirée Speciale - was featured in the recent exhibition at the Grand Palais Historique in Paris, on the occasion of the historic car auction on 6/02/2025.
