1923-2023 ALFA ROMEO RL TARGA FLORIO, THE FIRST TIME OF THE "QUADRIFOGLIO"
The Alfa RL is a two-seater produced in only six examples.
One hundred years separate us from that race in which the red racing Alfa triumphantly displayed the green Quadrifoglio on its bonnet for the first time.
Thus, he achieved the first overall victory for the Casa del Biscione in the international field.
The Alfa RL is a two-seater produced in just six examples by the Milanese company, of which 4 equipped with a 3154 cc engine (95 HP) were sent to participate in the 14° Targa Florio (1923).
As we know, this race was one of the most prestigious and challenging in the world due to the route of over 1000 km on the hairpin bends of the Madonie, on winding and dirt roads.
The drivers were Antonio Ascari - father of the future Formula 1 champion - Ugo Sivocci, Giulio Masetti and the young Enzo Ferrari: bold, expert, motivated.
Sivocci, for good luck, had the four-leaf clover painted on his car, a famous sign of good luck.
On the scene of the Sicilian circuit, the competition was at maximum tension: Ascari was in the lead, but a short distance from the finish line, the engine of his Alfa SL suddenly stalled. Sivocci's Alfa came behind him, overtaking all its competitors and winning the 14° Targa Florio.
Since then, the Alfa RL has boasted the title, and the auspicious Quadrifoglio symbol on a white background stands out on all Alfa Romeo racing cars.
