An example with a fascinating history, returned to its original configuration through a complete restoration costing around 200,000 euros.

There are cars capable of crossing the eras without losing their allure. The Maserati Ghibli is one of them: one of the most fascinating Italian Gran Turismos, born from the meeting of style, elegance and performance.

OldCar24 will bring to Auto e Moto d’Epoca Bologna 2026 a particularly interesting example: the Maserati Ghibli 4.7 AM115, registered in 1970 and, in recent years, the subject of a major restoration project.

AM115: a highly appealing configuration

The car retains its chassis and engine numbers, a feature that confirms its matching-numbers status.

The color scheme also matches the original: Salchi 106A32 Metallic Blue, combined with black Connolly leather upholstery and wool carpeting.

The equipment is completed by air conditioning and an Autovox radio, features that are particularly representative of the refined character of the era’s great GTs.

A story that began in 1970

The Ghibli was first registered in 1970 with CE plates and registered to the owner of the historic Alfa Romeo dealership on Via Aurelia in Rome. The following year, it was re-registered in Naples.

Its story took on an even more unusual character in 1976, when the car was taken off the road and remained unused for decades.

In 2014 it was purchased by a Neapolitan industrialist with approximately 43,000 actual kilometers. From that moment, an important revival project began, involving practically every component of the car.

A complete restoration

The mechanical components were completely rebuilt, including a new crankshaft made by Scam Technology, new bearings and oil pump, replacement of pistons, rings, valves, guides and water pump, as well as the overhaul of all accessories.

The running gear, gearbox and differential were also overhauled, and a new complete exhaust system was installed. The work was entrusted to a workshop in the province of Ancona, specializing in historic and modern supercars.

Since the work was completed, the Ghibli has covered approximately 4,000 kilometers. All replaced mechanical components have been retained and are still available.

The body shell was also completely disassembled and inspected on jigs, then sandblasted and restored in areas affected by corrosion. The outer door skins were replaced, and the engine hood and trunk lid were rebuilt, before the complete metalwork and painting in the original shade.

The bodywork was carried out by a Ferrari/Maserati authorized body shop.

The cabin was completely redone with Connolly leather and wool carpeting, while the chrome trim was renewed, retaining the original window surrounds. The front and rear lights are also new.

The total investment reported for the restoration amounts to approximately 200,000 euros, a figure that testifies to the scale and depth of the work.

One of the great Italian GTs

The first-generation Maserati Ghibli has also entered history thanks to its unmistakable proportions, created by Giorgetto Giugiaro during his time at Ghia.

The very long hood, set-back cabin and low stance create a silhouette that, more than half a century later, continues to represent one of the most recognizable expressions of Italian automotive design.

Under the hood of the 4.7 version sits the celebrated Maserati V8, the heart of a Gran Turismo conceived to combine high performance, comfort and the ability to cover long distances.

The Ghibli meets the public in Bologna

It is precisely because of its history, original configuration and the quality of the work carried out that this Maserati Ghibli AM115 was chosen as the star of the OldCar24 stand at Auto e Moto d’Epoca Bologna 2026.

A car that remained silent for almost forty years and was subsequently returned to the road through a particularly thorough restoration project.

In Bologna, collectors and enthusiasts will finally be able to admire it in person: an opportunity to see up close one of the cars that best tell the story of the golden age of Italian Gran Turismos.
